im about to commit some heresy and boil da wood…
ive already tried some solvents, oil just too dep. boiling did a number.. brought a ton of the shit to the surface. worried about the handguards tho. slightly swelled the wood. hid some cracks that i hadn't filled yet. im hoping as they dry they'll reappear, i need to stabilize them
posting FALfiles.com is… interesting. like one of the foremost FAL gunsmiths is on there, and some guys with a ton of FAL specific knowledge. but its all mixed in with the most retarded boomer shit you can imagine
A pussy from Cali. has a reaction .. ?? .. .. are you sure you didn't mean an erection, maybe when your boyfriend came home .. buy the cast POS .. I really could NOT care less .. I own plenty of Forged LMT receivers .. No Holes, No internal Voids .. As I said .. DSA has a long history with Casting shit .. shit that breaks .. do a search if you're capable ..
Good luck selling them .. !!!! .. DSA grinds all imperfections they can see .. the ones they can't see are sold to fools like you ..
Now, johnny cum lately .. go home and wait on your boyfriend .. !!!
ETA: Obviously you just bought one of these POS receivers and maybe the truth hurts .. ?? .. your Butt .. ??
Not man enough .. ?? .. I'm game .. r u .. ?? .. r u a man .. ?? ..
BTW: I don't slap .. you jumped on the wagon with monkeybrain .. I didn't .. I let this thread die several days ago .. then here you come .. Look directly under my name = jugrunner .. it plainly says "ToxicAlphaMail" .. don't let the Mail part get in the way .. the important part is Toxic & Alpha .. if you wish to continue I'm ready .. not intimidated by punks like you .. if you wish to let it go that's fine .. you're new around here .. you can learn a lot from the people on this board .. Maybe like = don't fuk with juggy .. !!! .. Or, how to build a FAL ..
If you were smart, you would glue yourself to the marketplace and find a Imbel or LMT receiver .. or if you must .. call DSA in the a.m. and just order the receiver of your choice .. it's a fools game to think you're going to save $10.00 on a failed group buy .. If 50 people "commit" half of them will never pay and the "Group buy" will die .. Sorry !! .. Truth hurts ..
i boiled the wood twice. it swelled, as expected. i think its as much oil as im getting out of it. i'll let it dry for a week in front of a heater vent. it increased the size of the cracks on the one handguard, but thats ok since im going to repair them anyway. i have charcoal coming in the mail im going to experiment with clear epoxy, charcoal, and saw dust as a filler
Ok holy fuck I knew it swelled but I mean, I didn't realize it swelled this much. Like a centimeter larger, it better shrink back as it dries or I'm p. fucked hahahah
ok did something stupid and thought i might be a good idea to put them in a warmer area to dry faster
things fairly thick, i imagine i just ended up making some localized dry spots and i help create some cracks
drilled some holes to stop them… guess i'll probly let these sit for a few weeks, maybe a month to get dry before i go and repair all da damage. probly mix up some charcoal/baking soda powder and pack any cracks that remain then hit em with CA glue to stabilizie everything. then i'll fill the larger gouges and other stuff with epoxy/wood dust/charcoal mixture, then i'll sand it down, tung oil, and paste wax.
why are boomer so retarded and love this shit? wood is a pain in the ass
modern synthetic stocks all day way
phew ok cool
stock is almost shrunk down completely
some cracking issues. i should have put it in a lightly ventilated bag so that it dried more slowly
but its almost shrunk back down to size, and ive gotten most of the warp out of it.
a big problem is that i put it in the oven for a little while ~120 thinking that it didn't absorb that much water
big mistake. i think thats why it warped so bad to one side initially, because that side got heated and dried out faster
i'll do some experiments with drilling holes and packing with filler and CA to try and get cracks that have closed up filled. ive got them marked now.
once that procedure is figured out i'll lightly hit the stock with an abrasive, then fill all the gouges with epoxy and reform the shape of the stock. then i'll hit it wall with tung oil and finish it with paste wax
