It's not for me but you can't deny the insane value just on the back catalog. And every Xbox / Bethesda game releasing day and date is huge.

i mean i rarely buy games, i usually play old shit from my steam library that i bought on sale so at $15 a month it doesnt make sense for me
but $1 for 3 months is a straight steal, i've been wanting to play the halo 3 remaster and there's some other good shit in there

 No.1616

Yeah I think it's good thing for vidya companies to provide a cheap and legal way to play their old games. I've thought for a long time that some Netflix-style service would be the future of gaming (for better or worse) and this seems like the closest thing so far.
A lot of people are complaining about the lack of ownership (for good reason), but vidya has been like that for a long time now if you've ever purchased anything digitally

 No.1617

yea buying on GOG is probably the only way to actually own a digital game
still though i like steam, community shit and player feedback is still front & center, and they don't ban you for calling people niggers in csgo
also the fact that i have like 15 years worth of "purchased" games that i can easily download through a single interface

The upsides are potentially massive:
>Games won't need monetization anymore, since game pass is the monetization. No more MTX, no more lootboxes, no more XP boosters etc.
>Developers won't have to aim for the $60 price point, so you can have games of any scope, length, genre etc.
>Subscribers will have access to hundreds of games, so live service crap will be abandoned much more quickly

Plus if the streaming thing takes off there won't be any need to spend 6 gorillion dollars on consoles or overpriced GPUs

 No.1627

btw if you activate it it auto-converts xbox live to xbox game pass
i loaded up for 3 years on xbl using codes from g2a then bought the trial now i have 3 years of game pass for about $100 not bad

publishers will always seek additional revenue streams, microtransactions will never go away now
imo one of the best developments in vidya in the past 10 years has been the $10-20 indie games that like 3 dudes put together over a year, i don't know how streaming will affect those sorts of game developers and how revenue splits, platform inclusion etc would work
i kind of think it will drive development video games in the netflix direction of quantity over quality where massive amounts of content are shat out at a rapid pace, backed up by good marketing and social media hype instead of by good game design

>>1625
you don't even need a super expensive graphics card to play video games any more
graphics technology has kind of plateaued as has the ability of game development studios to utilize upgraded hardware
look at ps1 -> ps2 -> ps3 -> ps4 -> ps5, each step along the way shows greatly diminishing returns, i don't think i could distinguish between a well made ps4 game and a ps5 game
and you need a massive budget and massive development teams to fully max out modern hardware, these super bloated $80 games are driven by this drive to fully utilize hardware instead of focusing on making a fun game, and even then a lot of them look like shit
i still use an rx570 to play games and it works fine, i think people spend $1200 on the newest nvidia rtx card or whatever for epeen, not because it actually improves their gameplay experience
also i wonder what google is going to do with all the graphics cards they bought for stadia after it inevitably closes down, i remember reading that they bought a shitton from amd to run their streaming service

>publishers will always seek additional revenue streams, microtransactions will never go away now
The new trend is free to play models. Microtransactions aren't going anywhere but it's all gonna be focused in this F2P / mobile space. It's never been easier to avoid microtransactions.

i made a bretty gud investment 7 years ago building $1k rig using that chart site (logical increments? i forget) to pick my hardware ive been able to run pretty everything i want ever since with minimal issues
i havent tried with any games that are specifically meant to be graphics heavy though mostly because games like that are usually just walking simulator tier bullshit nowadays from what i can tell. i know theres gotta be something out there though can anyone recommend something that's pretty AND fun?

>Games won't need monetization anymore, since game pass is the monetization. No more MTX, no more lootboxes, no more XP boosters etc.
this is some really wishful thinking
why would they not just do both?
microshaft gets their sub fees, then the devs get their lootbox bonuses
>Developers won't have to aim for the $60 price point, so you can have games of any scope, length, genre etc.
but they still absolutely will shoot for that $60 price point because they know they can. digital releases of AAA already go for that much all the time
>Subscribers will have access to hundreds of games, so live service crap will be abandoned much more quickly
hundreds of games that they do not own and are dependent on internet connection, and microsofts good will to leave it up there for more than justa few months

 No.1866

>>1865
>microshaft gets their sub fees, then the devs get their lootbox bonuses
yea i got the gamepass and basically all the games still have microtransactions and/or dlc, and you don't get the ultimate edition of the games
game pass gets you a 20% discount though lmao
>are dependent on internet connection
nah actually you can play for up to a month without connecting to the internet
still kinda shit if ur planning on going innawoods though i guess

 No.1867

>>1865
>why would they not just do both?
Because they already aren't. Activision, EA, Ubisoft etc. are all pivoting to free to play and mobile games which generate more MTX sales. When they actually make real games like Sekiro or Jedi Fallen Order they have no monetization.

That's been well known for decades on /v/ anon. We've even had EA posting here when Battlefield 3 was about to release The dinosaur thread comes to mind. They've always been here

I don't mind them too much. Because everybody's gotta eat. If this is your job, well I can't really do much. As long as they're not to obnoxious I don't throw a tantrum at them tbh.

i always thought people constantly shitting themselves over shills and marketers was retarded if you have anything resembling a brain you should be able to disregard them entirely
you should also realize that anyone dumb enough to fall for marketing tactics will never pay any heed to any screeching you do about it markting is designed almost entirely for brainlets with no self-control if youre not one then why do you give a shit what some idiot shill says about anything in the first place

Believing shills operate on boards with <10 posters, on sites with <50 posters is bordering on mental illness, I think anons just go on autopilot rants because sites like 4chan do have paid marketers

im not saying there are shills here im talking about a general behavior
even back when i did use 4chan i always found it really dumb that people would get mad about it instead of just using a filter marketers are ludicrously easy to spot when they do show up
i guess getting frustrated over peoples behavior that i have zero control over is also retarded though so it doesnt really matter
