The Xbox / Bethesda merger is good news. At Bethesda's current pace the next mainline Fallout game will release near the end of this decade, Xbox isn't going to wait that long to leverage such a popular IP. Which means we are likely getting a spin-off / non-numbered game by another studio in the next few years. Fallout 76 was a disaster which means it won't be GaaS shit either.
I've heard this a lot on the internet, I guess people are hoping for New Vegas 2 now that Microsoft owns Both Bethesda and Obsidian. But I'm not gonna get my hopes up just yet since Obsidian's most recent games have been cringefests full of SJW shit. But I guess we just have to wait and see, maybe another miracle will happen as it did with NV.
I think "New Vegas 2" is unlikely, Most of Obsidian is working on Avowed and Josh Sawyer is working on some meme project (which isn't NV2). And I think Obsidian is still interested in making another Outer Worlds game and growing that into a franchise. So I think it will probably fall upon inXile to make the next Fallout game.
Yeah, even if they were to get the same guys together I doubt they would make an actual sequel to NV (not that it needs one anyway imo). Plus it doesn't help that Avellone got fucking cancelled recently.>inXile
That's Brian Fargo's company right? Would be pretty based if it actually happens, but idk how much incentive they have to attempt appealing to old fans since the Bethesda games have been a lot more profitable than 1/2/NV.
New Vegas already had its fair share of SJW bullshit writing though. It wasn't quite as in your face but it was definitely there.
there hasnt been hope for decades.
Was there that much? Haven't played it in a while but all I can remember personally is Arcade Gannon being gay. But I wouldn't call that SJW since it's only a small thing and doesn't define him entirely like it usually is with gay characters. Plus you can literally just murder him or sell him into slavery if you feel like owning le libs or whatever.
Fuck, I don't have that one screencapped thread over a former microsoft game studios employee with me right now.
Basically, he worked on Ryse and talked about how horrible microshit is. They make a big enphasis on "killing" other competing game franchises. For example, Kameo old X360 release game
only got developed because microshit execs were told that it was going to be the "Zelda killer". You can see a clear similarities between the 2 games. Another example: Kinect and the shitty avatars it brought only got developed to compete directly with Nintendo's Miis on the Wii
Anons seem to have a completely outdated idea of Xbox because they've been dormant for so long. The most recent thing here is Lionhead closing and that was five years ago. In that span of time the leadership has completely changed hands and they've bought a bunch of studios.
>Bethesda will be dedders in less than a decade. Either that, or they'll churn out tons of crappy games before going bankrupt.
Xbox is making a ton of money right now and they haven't even started releasing the triple A games in the pipeline. They aren't going anywhere.
You didn't like New Vegas?

I didn't tbh. I thought it was incredibly over hyped. Had all the same issues Fall Out 3 had, more serious bugs than 3 had, the survival/eating stuff seemed cool but it was really just tedious. The only plus side to NV is that the story was more open ended but I couldn't get into it enough to give a shit.>just install 3-10 mods and it's great anon
Contrarianism isn't a personality
do you even see pic in >>953
from that alone, does that Look like a good game?>shitty, horrible textures>boring monotone color palette>clunky models
their art direction was so fucked.
the clunkiest 1st/3rd shooter mechanics too
>>958>the clunkiest 1st/3rd shooter mechanics too
This is why I'm such a contrarian to rebut >>956
. They made a shooter where it's literally not fun to shoot things.
I think that format, despite all the problems, has its advantages. The main thing I prefer in 3D Fallout is that there's a lot more versatility in character builds, as opposed to 1/2 where you're basically fucked if you don't choose Small Guns/Sneak/Lockpick. And a lot of the problems can be fixed with modding but as that one anon said it's not really an ideal solution.>>958
You'd be surprised at how much better the game looks with a simple mod to remove the yellow piss filter. No idea why used that. Same shit in FO3 with the green filter.
Speaking of Underrail how is that game? I hear a lot of people calling it "the real Fallout 3"
idk bout that
it's fun so far, bout 12 hours in.
kinda hit a wall because it looks like my psi isn't good enough.
the dev intended for you to get experience by exploring and finding little out of the way items like how you'd get bonus xp in deus ex for finding hidden rooms and passages. you can play it that way but you can optionally pick to get experience from fights.
I picked the former option and I must just need to do some explorin cause right now some of the fights are really wreckin my ass.
Anyway, definite classic crpg vibes if you're into that kind of thing but I'm not far enough in to really definitely say oh yeah this is what fallout 3 was supposed to be.
how is it difficulty-wise?
t. guy who fucking sucks at old CRPG games
it's hard, like I said I was stuck for a bit there. looks like I was going to an area that was over leveled for me. I went to do some other quests and got some xp and some perks.
looks like you just have to keep your wits about you and not always try to brute force stuff.
It's mostly dialogue shit with a lot of the womyn characters being stronk and obnoxious as fuck. You can overlook it pretty easily, but the point I was making is that the seeds were already planted back then, it only ever gets worse when it comes to big name devs, especially when they get eaten by corporations like M$ or EA.
Eh, might try it out sometime I guess. Honestly my main problem with CRPGs is fucking up the character build at the start so I'll just be sure to look up some tips before starting.
Oh yeah, I decided to play through Fallout 1 again and found this project:https://github.com/rotators/Fo1in2
Basically it ports the whole game into the Fallout 2 engine with all the newer features and bugfixes plus some other optional shit you can tweak in the ini.
That's the one that basically Fallout but in Russia right? I've been meaning to try that out sometime, but I will say that isometric games in 3D look a little strange to me tbh.
There's also a Russian fan-game called Fallout of Nevada that I've been meaning to try, apparently it's bretty good but idk.
I had a dream the other night that a version of Fallout New Vegas existed but in the style of the OG Fallout games. The Strip was amazing, it gave the same feeling as like New Reno in that you got this real big city vibe. The models were all clean and pristine and it had 9 separate areas.
But the dream got me thinking, there are tons of modders that make mods for old retro gaymes. Sometimes its literally just one guy and they are release mods that are the scope of a full game. So if one guy can do that why couldnt some of these companies put together games in the old school style with just a small dev team ? Release them at a target price of like 20 dollars in a digital form.
I think a lot of people want an isometric version of NV since there's a lot of fan art. I don't mind the game we got though, was pretty good considering they only got 18 months of development time and had to work with recycled FO3 assets.>So if one guy can do that why couldnt some of these companies put together games in the old school style with just a small dev team ?
I guess because modders do it out of passion rather than for profit, and there isn't as much profit to be made in that style of game these days. Plus even when it does happen it's usually shit (look at most of Obsidian's games post NV for example).
Yeah, Nv is a great game. Obsidian was literally setup to fail and they made something far better than anything Bethesda has released since Morrowind.
>there isn't as much profit to be made in that style of game these days
Yeah I dont deny that its a niche market but thats why they develop with a $20 price point in mind. Also I feel like a lot of people like playing older games but often times console backwards compatibility makes it hard. I think if some game company started throwing out feelers for a retro style digital market they would get positive feedback. All Zoomers need is to see one of their favorite streamers to stream it and the game will take off.>>1199
I have heard of Wasteland 3. From what I have seen of it I don't think it qualifies as a "small retro" game. Seems more like a game with an actual budget and a $60 release.
I was thinking something more along the lines of UnderRail. I have seen in on sale a number of times below 10 dollars and have heard all positive things from it. The main thing is I hate that high saturated pixel art that all "le indie devs" seem to use, it really turns me off from a game.
>>1201>>1201> started throwing out feelers for a retro style digital market they would get positive feedback
I've thought square should do that with final fantasy. alternate their big budget releases with something akin to ff4-6 in terms of graphics but with a large scope and some endgame content and people would eat that shit up.
especially if they could do a cheaper shorter dev cycle and release cross platform, pc, mobile, switch, etc it'd fund their big budget titles and they wouldn't spend years between ff15 and ff7r just blowing money
yeah, this I guess, but not a 3ds exclusive…
idgaf either way I'm just speaking purely from a pragmatic standpoint
like octopath, if they put bravely default on steam even a year after release it'd be huge on there
Octopath was on Steam? Might pirate that shit sometime if it wasn't using denuvo faggotry
yeh last summer i think wanna play it too but yea
Fallout expansion mods almost always end up being complete trainwrecks but this looks okay, would try it out but I doubt my toaster can run FO4
fo4 is fucking trash
the only ones ive played are 3 and new vegas
i liked 3 well enough to beat it though the story was absolutely retarded even for a bethesda game and i guess it really fucked the lore set by the first two games because over the years thats the kind of complaint ive seen the most by others on the various /v/ boards ive bounced around
the base game gets pretty boring when youre in the city ruins though because the tunnels are all gay and repetitive and you have to constantly enter and exit them to explore everything. i also liked the expansion where you go to louisiana (i think? its the one where you go to a swamp and fight mutated inbreds) because ive never seen a post-apocalyptic bayou portrayed in any other game so i guess it was mostly the setting itself i liked because i dont remember anything specific about it
new vegas had a much better main story but some of the side characters and their dialogue were pretty embarrassing and most of the voice acting sucked cock. i know there was one sidequest where you go into a hotel room and meet this nigger character who is being hunted sown by some people who want to kill him and hes supposed to be surprised but what was supposed to be a terrified
was seriously read as a deadpan "aaaaahhhhh" by a voice actor who clearly didnt give a shit at all i hope they didnt pay him much for that
the world was smaller but it felt more "real" than in 3 which at times sort of felt like random bullshit thrown around the area with no real cohesion and i liked the cowboy apocalypse aesthetic that arizona ranger outfit is cool as shit
new vegas' final battle was extremely lackluster considering all the buildup it gets beforehand but i guess you cant really expect all that much out of that shitty engine they used
i liked all the dlcs except the one where youre in the sierra madre and have a bomb collar and have to fight/sneak by those immortal ghouls or whatever they were
which reminds me sneaking in both games struck as retarded. as in id have a really high sneak skill but enemies would still immediately spot me all the time even indoors with no light, was taht some level scaling bullshit or something?
ya f03 fucked the lore so fuckin bad
and it was so uncessary.. there was absolutely no reason they had to have brotherhood of steel, or enclave in any of that shit
plus they ruined the feel of fallout. it all looked shit brown, and became sorta campy while losing any real satire.
not to mention the absolute retardendness of the plot
You should try out the older games if you can manage to work out the kinda archaic RPG mechanics, 2 is pretty meh but 1 is the best in the series imo
File: 1624406898360.png (480.12 KB, 865x760, 173:152, 3259b40728af6601e3b562d7ef….png)
Fallout 3 was originally meant to be set only a few decades after the bombs fell and then changed during production. It explains a lot:
>Why pre-war food and supplies are still abundant>Why there is no real resettlement or agriculture>Why the landscape looks so fucked up >Why BoS are good guys (not yet corrupted by power)>Why the Enclave is still around
>>2797>it all looked shit brown
yah it was bland looking thats for damn sure. a lot of games had that ugly washed out brown garbage going at the time, probably one of the dumbest trends imo>>2799
ive been meaning to for awhile now since i really like isometric games but ive never been all that into turn based stuff so i keep putting it off. i'll get around to it eventually though>>2800
really? is there a link to any backstory about that? i wanna read it
again about the sneaking bullshit though did any of you notice that at all? how with a mid-level character you could reliably sneak around and gank niggers with sniper rifles or melee weapons but the moment you get to a higher level then every enemy stronger than a molerat would be able to spot you immediately?
nah never noticed
i'll say that my builds weren't sneak based at all, but with scout armor i could pretty much get past anything
for example at ravenrock, when you get captured and the game gives you 1HP until you're supposed to talk to that one guy?
well if you're really fast when you load in, you can run past him and escape raven rock through sneak and sorta break the game
you'll be stuck at 1HP forever but im pretty sure i could have beat it like that just by sneaking
idk wtf i was doing wrong then every stealth build i went with turned to shit once the sneak skill hit ~75 so i eventually just stopped trying to make a ninja and made an energy weapon focused character instead so i could roleplay as a junkie with a flamethrower
dont get me wrong the game is shit and gameplay is broken
you might be right, i just found my particular way to cheese the game
>>2800>Why BoS are good guys (not yet corrupted by power)
that part was pure fanfiction. The BOS were never good or bad, they were always just a bureaucracy dedicated to hoarding and preserving the tech. The closest they ever came to overtly "good" is their gradual sale of tech at the end of FO1 rather than using their big stick to seize power, but even that may have simple been motivated by economics and competition from the Gun Runners. The Enclave part is iffy, but still plausible.>>2801
3 is a bad game™ but playing a sprinty Quasimodo was fun as fuck with FWE mod.
>>2870>The BOS were never good or bad
The brotherhood have always been dicks. The quest they send you on in FO is designed to get you killed. You are one of many they've sent on this quest.
Later on during the war with the ncr they just raided the shit out of them as they were retreating. The reason ncr currency in New Vegas sucks is cause they just destroyed the ncr's gold reserves during the war.
i mean really really early on BoS were american military remnants, idk if that counts as good or not in the fallout universe
no it IS retarded for them to be anywhere on the eastern seaboard. those remnants retreated into the west coast lost hills bunkers, afterall.
The lore is so dumb for them being in west virgina.
The founder of the bos literally calls them and they agree to create an exact copy of a cult that's a hundreds of miles away.
FO3 had the decency to copy FOT since that made sense at least.
>>2872>The brotherhood have always been dicks. The quest they send you on in FO is designed to get you killed. Really? Didn't know the BoS where such massive dicks
I don't think they were too bad in FO1. There was that quest but after completing it they go "lol he actually did it the absolute madman" and start to respect you to some degree. In NV they were complete dicks tho
to be fair to the guards, they're dealing with literal illiterate mutated niggers all day
i'd be sending retards off to irradiated cesspits too
said, they know they're sending you to die because they get asked about becoming a memember all the time. I want to say the npc guards by the bunker entrance comment on it more honestly than the quest giver does, but it's been a long time.
Either way it's a sharp contrast between FO3/4 where their sole purpose is *generic good guy shit*
In FO1, even if you do convince them to send help against the master they send like 2 dudes and only if you convince them that the super mutants are a threat to them
>>3013>I want to say the npc guards by the bunker entrance comment on it more honestly than the quest giver does
You're right, the NPC next to the talking head that gives the quest has a floating text that appears when you accept saying like "they gave you the glow quest lol" and if you click on him he'll give you the full skinny. I'd call that pretty charitable considering they just want you to fuck off.>In FO1, even if you do convince them to send help against the master they send like 2 dudes and only if you convince them that the super mutants are a threat to them
Little uncharitable imho but not wrong.
I just want to know what would have happened if they actually became the R&D house that the end slides of 1 said they did. Imagine some weird future technocracy where the Brotherhood has a monopoly on anything more complex than gunpowder and uses sale of tech to enforce stability in the core region.
They never could compete against the gunrunners and crimson caravan who could actually manufacture guns and ammo. The brotherhood never had the means to make power armor or energy weapons. At most they could just maintain their existing gear and teach others the same. Maybe they could share some knowledge that's applicable to wasteland survival like medicine or farming.
>>3100>The brotherhood never had the means to make power armor or energy weapons
yes they could, i for sure talked with some R&D nerd in F1 in their bunker about them making laser weapons
is probably confusing manufacturing with manufacturing at scale. The Brotherhood could make things by hand, but never mastered the assembly line.
That's what I meant. Gun Runners and others could manufacturer at scale.
The Brotherhood was limited to a lab and probably limited by what components they could salvage from broken down weapons and armor.
>Deep within the Cheyenne Mountain military complex, mutant cults worship an ancient deity they call the Holy Detonation—a nuclear explosion held in stasis. Whether god, science experiment, or accidental miracle, the Detonation's energy could power Colorado Springs for hundreds of years, or level it in an instant. The warring cults have differing opinions on who should be allowed to honor their god, and you’re going to have to muscle your way to the altar. It’s one last mission for the Rangers in Colorado, and the outcome is certain to be explosive—one way or the other.
>Cult of the Holy Detonation expands the Wasteland 3 experience with entry into the Cheyenne Mountain complex, crammed with new characters, enemies, challenging combat encounters, and powerful new weapons and armor. Your squad of Rangers will be tested like never before in objective-based encounters that put a creative spin on the already deeply tactical turn-based combat. As they face overwhelming odds, the Rangers will need to shut down reactors, clear ventilation systems, and engage defensive countermeasures to stem an unending tide of dangerous mutants and machines within the dilapidated military bunker.
Surprised Bethesda never did a Children of the Atom expansion honestly
bethesda is only capable of taking and ruining ideas from the original fallouts
dude looks like le coomer face lol
yah he kinda does just needs a little more teeth in that smile and itd be perfect
